Drawing Room
The carpet is the room. Go as large as the floor allows and leave a hand’s width of bare floor at the walls, so the furniture sits on the qaleen rather than around it.
Softest underfoot
Bedroom
You want the qaleen to reach past the sides of the bed, so the first step out in the morning lands on pile and not on cold floor.
Small and hard-working
Entryway & Prayer
Short pieces that take shoes, doors and daily use. A mid-tone pattern hides the marks a plain colour would show by the second week.
Long and narrow
Hallway Runners
Measure the corridor and subtract about half a foot at each end. A runner that stops short of the doorway makes the hall look shorter, not longer.
What reed count actually means
Reed count, or shana, is the number of vertical threads packed into the width of the qaleen. It is the single biggest driver of both price and how sharp the pattern looks. Everything else on the label is taste.
A practical rule: for a room the family uses every day, 700 reeds is the point where a qaleen stops feeling like a budget choice. Above 1200 you are buying detail and sheen more than durability.
Or start from the colour
Two rules that hold in most homes here: light grounds (cream, beige, silver) make a small or dim room read larger, and mid tones (grey, brown, mushi) hide everyday marks far better than either extreme.

Common questions
What does qaleen mean?
Qaleen is the Urdu and Persian word for carpet. In Pakistan it usually means a dense, patterned pile carpet in the Persian tradition, as opposed to a thin rug, a dari or a runner.
What reed count should I buy?
For a room the family uses every day, 700 reeds is a sensible floor. 1200 reeds is where the pattern detail becomes noticeably finer, and 1500 to 1600 is the premium end. Below 700 is best kept to guest rooms and low-traffic spaces.
How much does a qaleen cost?
Across the current range, from [woocs_show_custom_price value=”12000″ decimals=”0″] to [woocs_show_custom_price value=”170000″ decimals=”0″]. Price is driven mainly by reed count and size, and every product page shows its own price.
What is the pile made of?
Mostly heat-set acrylic, which holds colour and resists crushing. We also stock tencel silk and viscose for a silk-like sheen, and propylene and polyester in the harder-wearing ranges.
Is a machine-woven qaleen worse than a handmade one?
Different, not worse. A handmade carpet is an heirloom and priced like one. A high reed count machine-woven qaleen gives you an even pile, consistent colour, easier cleaning and a fraction of the cost. The semi-handmade range sits between the two.
How do I look after it?
Rotate it twice a year so sun and footfall wear it evenly. Vacuum with the pile rather than against it, and skip the beater bar on a high-reed qaleen. Blot spills, never rub. Put pads under heavy furniture legs to stop permanent dents.
